Arrival: Refuge headquarters / Shorebird Loop parking at 1020 Ranch Road.

Approach: At Hookton Road, northbound traffic crosses west over US-101 then takes the first right; southbound turns right then immediately left. Follow the entrance road north and west about 1.3 miles to headquarters.

This is Salmon Creek, not the separately closed Hookton Slough trail/boat launch.

The Humboldt Bay National Wildlife Refuge visitor area at 1020 Ranch Road, with a 1.7-mile level gravel wetland loop, observation structures, and accessible visitor facilities.

Access details

Parking
Use the signed Salmon Creek Unit entrance from US 101 Exit 696 and Ranch Road; this record does not substitute the separately managed Hookton Slough entrance.
Viewpoint
Platforms, a gazebo, and a photo blind support wetland and bird viewing; sightings are not guaranteed.
Trail
The Shorebird Loop is a level 1.7-mile gravel trail; pets, bicycles, jogging, and horses are prohibited to reduce wildlife disturbance.
Public water access
No visitor boat launch is represented at the Salmon Creek visitor area.
Water conditions
The Hookton Slough trail and launch are a separate unit with separate closures.
